Graham is Design-Building New Fort McMurray Pedestrian Bridge

Graham was recently awarded the CDN$35 million contract to design and construct the MacDonald Island Pedestrian Bridge which will connect downtown Fort McMurray with the MacDonald Island recreation and entertainment development.

New to Canadian construction, and as a further example of Graham's ability to succeed in alternate contract deliveries, this project will be executed through a combination of alliance contracting and modified design-build. Ultimately, it's a shared risk design-build contract allowing the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo to engage Graham and its design-build team from pre-concept to completion. Recognizing the client's goal of creating one of the world's most elegant pedestrian bridge structures, Graham has retained specialty design partners Buckland & Taylor, Associated Engineering, and world renowned bridge architect, Dissing + Weitling out of Denmark.

In order to procure the project award, Graham was able to demonstrate its ability to complete technical world class bridge structures, as well as highlight our proven partnership approach to manage the design and construction process. While the project details are yet to be fully defined, it is known that the bridge will be a catalyst for the redevelopment of Fort McMurray's downtown Civic Centre and will be ready in advance of the Western Canada Summer Games in 2015.
