Peace Bridge Wins 2013 Engineering Award and Steel Edge Award

Graham was the general contractor on Calgary's Peace Bridge, recently awarded The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction's (CISC) 2013's Engineering Award - an award recognizing steel structures where engineering considerations and the efficient use of steel in unique applications are the predominate factor. The Peace Bridge also received the CISC's Steel Edge Award, which demonstrates the application of steel design, fabrication, detailing or finishing. These projects or project components demonstrate tremendous innovation in addressing unique design, resource or application challenges.

The Peace Bridge is a pedestrian /cyclist bridge that connects the vibrant neighbourhoods of Sunnyside and Hillhurst to downtown Calgary over the Bow River. The bridge was designed by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava and has quickly become an icon for Calgary and the Province of Alberta. The bridge structure is a sleek helical steel truss system with a single span of 126 metres. The bridge features a glass roof and lighting for night use, as well as a total deck width of eight metres to accommodate segregated bicycle and pedestrian traffic lanes. From the day of opening, the bridge has been used by approximately 6,000 people per day.
